Conclusion

The crisis is wether the victim of the car crasch decides to live or die. The maincaracter in this book (Mia) has to make this choice and she does not know what to decide when her immediate family is gone.

"What would it be like if I stay. What would it feel like to wake up an orphan? To never smell Dad smoke a pipe? To never stand next to Mom quietly talking as we do the dishes? To never read Teddy another chapter of Harry Potter? To stay without them? I'm not sure this is a world I belong in anymore. I'm not sure that I want to wake up."

The crisis is a choice and Mia's boyfriend, grandparents and bestfriend tries to help and support her but in the end she will be the one deciding.

We think that the message of the book is:
Never take anything for granted because in just one second everything can change.
A life has a beginning and an end and it is nothing like a whole life.
And if all your loved ones were gone, would life be worth living?

"Life is not the amount of Breaths you Take. It's the Moments that Take your Breath Away"

The Characters

Mia (protagonist): She lives in Oregon with her mother, father and little brother. Mia is a 17 year old girl who loves to play the Cello. Her dream is to get in to the college "Julliard" for playing the Cello. She has a shy, laidback and quiet personality. She is now in High School her senior year. Mia is an avarage student with a coiuple of friends and one bes friend (Kim) and also her boyfriend (Adam). She survives the car crasch but she does not wake up at the hospital. In the book she is outside her own body like a ghost noone can see or hear. She will have to decide if she stays or dies.

Quote said by Mia: “I know it’s silly but I have always wondered if Dad is disappointed that I didn’t become a rock chick. I’d meant to. Then, in third grade, I’d wandered over to the cello in music class—it looked almost human to me. It looked like if you played it, it would tell you secrets, so I started playing. It’s been almost ten years now and I haven’t stopped.”

Adam (Mia's boyfriend): 18 years old (1 year older than Mia). He goes part time in college, playing in a famous band in their village. He has a small group of close friends but a big group of admires. A very popular and cool  boy who loves music. We think that Adam will be one of the reasons Mia has to stay alive. He is kind of the family now when Mia's family is gone.

Quote about Adam said by Mia: "He’s such the cool guy with his pegged jeans and black low-tops, his effortlessly beat-up punk-rock tees and his subtle tattoos. He is so not the kind of guy to end up with someone like me.”

Teddy (Mia's little brother): Eight-year-old. A fun boy who likes adventures. We dont think that Teddy will survive the accident, but it is still a little unclear. He is the typical litte brother with a lot of energy.

Quote said by Teddy: “Snow day!” he bellows. “Dad, let’s go make a snowman.”

Mia's Mom and Dad:
Mia’s punk rock parents, who are really cool for being parents.  Mia's dad used to play in a band, but now he’s a professor. They both died in the car crasch in the beginning of the book but we think that they still will have a meaning in the book, while the book has a lot of flashbacks to show Mia's life before the car crasch.

The “Gran and Gramp” (Mia's grandparents): Very nice, quiet, caring, people. They will play an important part in the book because they are two of the closest people to Mia who still are alive.

Kim (best friend): Religious (jewish), 17 years old. She is funny, in a low key way. Kim and Mia met in school where they in the beginning were enimies. After a fistfight they made up and they have been best friends ever since.

Mrs Schein (Kim's Mom): Very emotional, a real “Drama Queen”, the opposite of her daughter.

"Everybody has to make choices.
Some might break you."

Hello everyone!!! :)

We are Alice, Joshua, Viktor and Ebba, four sport and reading loving teenagers who have at least one thing more in common. We are all reading the amazing and exciting, teen fiction book: "If I stay", written by Gayle Forman.

Our first impression of the book is that it seems really exciting, sad and one of those books you just can't stop reading. We have just been reading the first pages of the book, but we already know that the book is about Mia. She loves her family, her boyfriend and music. Her big passion is to play the cello and it seems like she has a really bright future in front of her. Right in the beginning of the book, she and her family go through a horrible and terrifying car crasch. In one single moment, everything changes.

The big question now is: will Mia survive?
